Wood is recruiting for an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join its Projects business unit, focussing on Oil & Gas projects.

 

 Please note this role will work our standard office hybrid work schedule. 

 

The Role

The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will provide engineering to projects from conception to construction.  This role will provide engineering on a variety of projects in the Oil & Gas sector  from conception to construction.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities 

  • Assure compliance with Engineering Procedures and quality control standards
  • Interface with various engineering disciplines and suppliers.
  • Project Execution may include but not limited to:
    • Work independently and as part of a team 
    • Provide I&C input to P&ID’s
    • Prepare, review, and sign/stamp control deliverables such as Control Philosophy, Control Narrative, Cause and Effect diagram, and Control system architecture
    • Development of Material take offs (MTO’s)
    • Support for field RFI’s and Field Change notices.
    • Development/QC of Instrument Loop diagrams as well as control cabinet design / wiring and cable schedule input to electrical.
    • Participate in HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL reviews
    • Selection and procurement of controls hardware (DCS/PLC/FGS)
    • Package Engineering such as preparing Material Requisitions, Technical Bid Evaluations and award recommendations 
    • Completion of Vendor document reviews
    • Support in the development of Control Narratives and Cause and Effect diagrams.
    • Preparation and review of various I&C lists (I/O list, I/O assignments, Load list, etc)
    • Thorough understanding of communications and network systems
    • Have frequent contact with vendors and internal staff

Expected: 

  • Bachelors in Science, Engineering from an accredited University or College.
  • Minimum of 4 + yrs. Industry experience
  • Good understanding and familiarity of ISA and CSA codes and directives.
  • Ability to problem-solve effectively
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required

Desirable:

  • Experience in the use of Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI / Intools) is an asset.
  • Registration through APEGA as a P.ENG/P.L. (ENG) is an asset.
  • Experience in the Alberta oil and gas sector is preferred
