Work Arrangement:
Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to a GM or supplier facility, as designated by the business, on a full-time basis.
Each successful candidate will be offered an onsite role at a specific location, which may be at various locations throughout the United States depending on business needs. Candidate location preferences are considered but cannot be guaranteed. Selected candidates will be notified of their assigned location approximately 90 days prior to start date.
The Team:
As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern within the Autonomous Robotics Center or the Automation & Cybersecurity teams, you will be immersed in a dynamic and hands-on learning experience across various plant and corporate staff locations throughout the United States. These roles are designed to foster your professional development and provide meaningful exposure to real-world engineering challenges.
You’ll engage in fast-paced problem solving, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and explore innovative technologies that drive automation and cybersecurity in manufacturing. This internship offers the opportunity to flex your creative thinking, gain practical experience, and contribute to impactful projects in a supportive and engaging environment.
Most assignments will be located in Warren, MI, with additional opportunities at strategic partner sites across Southeast Michigan and manufacturing facilities across the United States.
What You’ll Do:
Examples of Manufacturing Engineering Assignments
Analyze product, process, and technology to determine optimal vehicle assembly methods and safeguard manufacturing processes
Recommend and validate improvements for existing manufacturing processes
Support evaluation and integration of innovative technologies to address current manufacturing challenges
Develop tools to enhance program and project management effectiveness
Support the development and implementation of cybersecurity tools for manufacturing environments
Assist in the design, construction, and validation of manufacturing tools and equipment
Program manufacturing technologies and automation systems
Assist maintenance teams with the operation and upkeep of specialized equipment
Troubleshoot complex maintenance and equipment issues
Coordinate machinery and equipment upgrade projects
Autonomous Robotics Center
Develop processes, equipment, and tools for autonomous robotic products (e.g., AMRs, AFTs, Cobots)
Collaborate with other centers to reduce energy consumption and waste globally
Develop and evaluate manufacturing innovations to support the "Factory of the Future"
Lead value-added systems for Vehicle Assembly, including lean material strategies in General Assembly
Automation and Cybersecurity Engineering
Develop processes, equipment, and tools for over 50 Assembly, 30+ Stamping, and 30 Propulsion Plants, supporting ~30 global launches annually
Program and integrate software and hardware for industrial automation equipment, including:
Rockwell & Siemens PLCs and HMIs
Fanuc Robots
Vision guidance systems
Other automation control devices
Ensure compliance with current automation safety standards
Collaborate globally to reduce energy usage and waste
Assist in developing new software, hardware, and error-proofing standards to reduce costs and improve efficiency
Review, update, and approve wiring diagrams for various systems and networks
Drive collaboration with equipment suppliers to ensure first-time quality, on-time delivery, and successful installation and runoff of automation equipment

Required Qualifications:
Pursuit of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or technology in one of the following areas: Automation, Automotive, Computer/Computer Science/Computer Animation, Construction Management, electrical, Industrial, Information Technology, Kinesiology, Machine Learning, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Software, or equivalent
Must be graduating between December 2026 and June 2028
Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week during the summer months
Must be willing to work in a plant environment

Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization and external partners
Emerging partnership and collaboration skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment
High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, takes initiative/self-directed
Knowledge of statistical methods as applied to experimental design and process development
Start dates for this internship role are May & June of 2026.
