As our next Automation Project Specialist, you’ll be responsible for programming, debugging, installing, and starting up new or modified production and test equipment. Your expertise in robotics, PLCs, and automation systems will be essential in supporting advanced manufacturing projects and ensuring long-term equipment performance.
• Support design, build, and commissioning of automation equipment (robotic cells, test systems, etc.)
• Troubleshoot and diagnose robot cells (Fanuc, Yaskawa, ABB)
• Program PLCs, HMIs, vision and motion systems, and safety controllers
• Modify existing production equipment and LabVIEW-based programs
• Set up control networks (Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT)
• Select electrical components and prepare schematics (E-plan is an asset)
• Collaborate with mechanical designers and attend design reviews
• Provide customer support during equipment commissioning
• Prepare technical documentation, manuals, and setup procedures
• Ensure safety standards are implemented in all automation changes
• Conduct run-at-rate performance testing with manufacturing teams
• Support redesign and sourcing of machine components
• Lead and coordinate continuous improvement initiatives
• Perform other related duties as required
• Technical diploma or degree in engineering technology
• 5+ years of experience in an automation environment
• Expert-level PLC programming (Omron NJ, Allen Bradley)
• Robot programming experience (Fanuc, Yaskawa, Kuka)
• Hands-on skills in electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
• Knowledge of LabVIEW and SQL databases (asset)
• Understanding of IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 quality systems
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization
• High integrity, dependability, and results-oriented mindset
• Willingness to travel as required
