Summary

We are recruiting for an Automation Specialist (PLC, RTU) in Calgary to work on projects in our Engine and Compression business unit. Reporting to the Manager, Project and Solutions Operations, the successful candidate will work within a project team, applying their automation knowledge and experience in configuration, system design, application development, commissioning, system testing, and start-up on new and existing integrated solutions based on PLC platforms.

Reporting to the Operations Manager – Machinery Performance, the successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of engineering design, configuration, integration, manufacturing, commissioning, and start-up services.

Role and Responsibilities

Support of gas compression control with a focus on products and solutions sold through our Machinery Performance: Engine & Compression Solutions division (E&C) with a focus on in-house design, development, and implementation of control and safety systems.
You will become an industry expert on the following:

Programmable Logical Controllers (PLC)

REMVue and Sixnet RTU (Isagraf)
Allen-Bradley (RS500/5000 and Studio5000)
Schneider Proface HMI (GP-ProEX) and PanelView HMI (FT View Studio)
DeltaV

Altronic Shutdown & Control Systems
Ignition systems and their components
Air Fuel Ratio controllers
And much, much more!

Participating in our 7/24 on call rotation\

Provide telephone customer support on E&C products and solutions

Interfacing and building lasting relationships with Internal and external customers
Involvement in commissioning and troubleshooting of other products Spartan Controls supplies to the oil and gas industry which include:

Fisher valves & regulators, Rosemount transmitters (flow, level, temperature), vibration sensors, I2P’s, DVC’s, VFD’s, DeltaV systems

Technical application and implementation of PLC, RTU and HMI systems
Programming for projects – design and implementation - using several technologies/systems which are configured using a variety of programming tools and languages
Programming of Human-Machine Interface (HMI) graphics
Documentation of control strategies and configuration
Participate in multi-disciplinary review of hardware designs
Internal verification and factory acceptance testing (FAT)
Ability to troubleshoot hardware and configuration
Support continuous improvement opportunities
Interface with internal and external customers
Provide technical support during system start-up, shutdown, and life-cycle activities
Provide technical applications/solutions to customers and maintain awareness of their technical requirements
Provide input into improvement of engineering and service processes and practices

Qualifications and Skills

B.Sc. in Engineering, Electronics, Electrical, or Computer Technologist Diploma, or Instrumentation Technologist Diploma
We welcome recent graduates to apply.
Related process control system experience is an asset.
Programming / Software / Configuration experience - proven skill set that can be applied to various programming languages (i.e. RTU/PLC hardware/software, ladder logic, function block, structured text, and HMI configuration)
Experience with the following control systems / PLCs / RTUs / Solutions is an asset

Emerson/GE PLCs (VersaMax, RSTi, RX3i)

Experience with the following is an asset:

Oil and gas industry experience
Natural gas compression industry experience
Control valves, shut-off valves

Fire and Gas detectors
Interpreting P&IDs
experience with Modbus configuration
Oil and gas industry experience

Aptitude for prioritizing multiple tasks and managing multiple concurrent assignments
Exceptional communication skills and customer service experience and practices
Strong team player and customer oriented
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Experience with maintenance and troubleshooting in a site / operations environment
Safety conscious and able to complete applicable safety training (e.g. H2S Alive, CSTS, First Aid, etc.)
Willingness to travel; valid Class 5 driver license required
