Description

We currently have an opening for an Electrical Instrumentation & Controls Engineer in our Markham office. Working with a dynamic team in a collaborative work environment, the Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will preferably be based out of the Markham office but will collaborate with our other offices in Niagara-on-the-Lake and Kitchener.  

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls Design Lead/Engineer of record for multi-disciplined engineering projects
  • Previous experience in project work serving the water & wastewater industry is an asset
  • Electrical design of power distribution systems (27.6kV, 14.8kV, 5kV, 600V): transformers, switchgear, panel boards, various cabling systems
  • Perform power system studies (load flow, ground grid, short circuit, arc flash, coordination)
  • Design of Motor Control Centres (MCCs), motor control schematics, security systems, fire alarm systems, building lighting systems
  • Design of SCADA (GE iFix), control systems (Emerson RX3i, Allen Bradley Compact & ControlLogix) including panels, network access closets and communication networks
  • Preparation of contract and design drawings, specifications (49 or 16 division format) and opinion of probable cost 
  • Preparation of engineering reports/technical memos
  • Perform site inspection, testing, and commissioning services at project site as required
  • Perform other duties as required by the Manager / Senior Engineer / Design Lead
  • Provide engineering support during construction including review of shop drawings, prepare RFI responses
  • Support proposals with applicable input as required

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to established policies and procedures within a COR registered environment
  • Follow all safety and non-safety rules and regulations
  • Review and adhere to AE’s health and safety, environmental, and quality standards, operating procedures and policies
  • Understand and uphold the policies that prohibit workplace violence and harassment
  • Participate in regular formal or informal workplace inspections, as necessary
  • Follow safety rules and report unsafe acts or conditions
  • Report all accident and / or incident procedures and unsafe conditions and / or behavior
  • Respond or delegate responsibility immediately to items brought to his / her attention with respect to hazards, defects or non-compliance issues
  • In addition to the above, the duties include those specified under the Occupational Health & Safety Act


Requirements

What will you bring to the table:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related Electrical / Instrumentation / Controls discipline from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of electrical, instrumentation & control systems
  • Eligibility for P.Eng
  • Excellent writing (emails, reports, technical writing) and oral communication (presenting design at workshops with clients) skills
  • Ability to work and learn independently and collaboratively
  • Field and site experience: inspecting, commissioning and testing electrical and controls installations
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Proficient in use of MS Office Suite of products including collaborative software such as MS OneNote and SharePoint, as well as document design software such as Adobe Suite of products
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to travel within Ontario
