As a Project Controls Specialist, you will support the successful delivery of capital projects and annual Turnarounds at our Saint John refinery by developing project baselines, monitoring performance, managing cost controls, and delivering accurate, timely reporting. Your goal will be to enable safe, on-time, and on-budget project execution through strong financial oversight, performance tracking, and governance discipline. Your Responsibilities:
Support the development of the project baselines including detailed costs estimates and P6 schedules
Set up and maintain cost control tools from project initiation through close out
Compile, validate and analyze cost data to produce accurate and timely project cost reporting to Project Managers, Portfolio Management and Leadership
Facilitate the project Change Management process including field changes
Analyze and evaluate progress and performance and assess impact on cost forecasts
Manage contingency, escalation and draw down plans
Review contractor and supplier quotes, identify variances, support the preparation of requisitions, and monitor status of purchase orders
Validate source data and ensure integrity of processes affecting project success such as project coding, budget allocation, A/R, A/P project transactions
Perform financial reconciliations between project systems and financial systems
Build and maintain effective relationships with Project Managers and project teams including engineering, procurement & contracts, construction, planners, and contractors to ensure all project scope is properly represented in the estimate
Contribute to continuous improvement
Your Skills:
Strong understanding of project control processes and procedures, and project stage gates
Ability to analyze cost and schedule data, identify drivers, and communicate insights clearly
Strong knowledge of cost management systems and ERP systems is an asset
Working knowledge of Primavera P6, with a strong understanding of project schedule fundamentals
Ability to work under pressure, manage priorities, and always meet deadlines
Proven ability to work under pressure, prioritize, multi-task and manage expectations
Communication and presentation skills; able to tell a compelling story based on accurate data
Proficiency with MS Excel
Strong analytical and interpersonal skills with a desire to learn and grow
Your Experience:
Post-secondary education in Business, Engineering, Trades or equivalent experience
Minimum 5+ years of experience in a directly related role
Engineering, Construction or Project Management experience an asset
AACE (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) or PMP (Project Management Professional) designation an asset
Experience in an industrial construction environment an asset
Power BI experience an asset
