Electrical Engineer – Protection & Controls Engineer
Lauren Services is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer utility infrastructure, with a strong focus on transmission, distribution, and generation systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate data and observations; prepare detailed technical reports of findings.
- Conduct Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) to validate protection and control systems through commissioning checklists and relay testing.
- Deliver in-field expertise to Network Operations
- Lead or participate in developing, reviewing, and maintaining protection standards, policies, and procedures.
- Identify gaps or areas of improvement; initiate and implement technical policies, inspections, permitting, and design processes.
- Serve as a technical reference for the team, external consultants, and stakeholders; maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry practices and standards.
- Represent organizational technical interests at industry meetings, hearings, and conferences; build and maintain relationships with peers and external agencies.
Education & Experience
- A Bachelor of Engineering, Electrical major required.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia.
- 8–12 years’ experience in electric utility protection and control system engineering (transmission, distribution, station, and generation)
Technical Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of:
- Protection schemes for transmission/distribution substations and generating stations.
- Protection coordination for transmission/distribution systems.
- Protective relay, regulator, and fuse settings.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Substation design, high-voltage equipment, AC/DC auxiliary systems, and monitoring devices.
- Applicable engineering standards (IEEE, ANSI, WECC, Canadian Electrical Code).
- Safety management and budget principles.
- SEL and ABB relays.
- AutoCAD.
- Proficiency with engineering studies software: Aspen OneLiner, ACSELERATOR, ETAP, CYME TCC (required).
- Familiarity with CYMEDist and ARCFM (asset).
