Job Description:

Who You will Work With

You will join one of our 45 offices in the US, be part of a committed team of over 1500 professionals, and work in teams and directly with our clients doing work that is shaping the world around us. You will be welcomed into a rapidly growing business and team and empowered to make an impact. You will be valued, cared for, and challenged on your path to becoming a world-class professional consultant and surrounded by leaders who are committed to creating an environment that enables you to realize your own success and fulfillment.

When you join Design Group as a Sr. Software Engineer, you are joining a team that will challenge you and position you for growth. Design Group is widely known as an industry leader, recognized as a top system integrator, ranking #7 in the 2023 System Integrator Giants; as a Rockwell Platinum Integrator, the highest designation given to Rockwell partners; and as an Ignition Enterprise Premier Integrator. As a part of this team, you will learn from industry leading experts and may even have the chance to be an active participant in industry events like the Ignition Build-A-Thon which Design Group won in 2023!

In this role, you will work with a team of industry experts to help the world’s leading companies solve their most difficult problems. You will join our Control System Integration Practice and partner with seasoned leaders, technical specialists, and subject matter experts to deliver the highest quality solutions to our clients with consistency and accuracy.

What You’ll Do

You’ll work individually and with a cross-functional OT team to deliver SCADA/MES software solutions for capital projects and site rollouts. You’ll turn shop-floor requirements into reliable, user-friendly applications that improve safety, quality, and throughput.

SCADA/MES development: Design and build SCADA and MES workflows (e.g., OEE, Track & Trace), reusable templates/UDTs, alarm philosophy, historian tagging, and role-based HMIs.

Data & databases: Design and optimize database schemas for major platforms (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and write Named Queries.

Connectivity & Integrations: Integrate PLCs and devices via OPC UA , drivers, and gateways; implement MQTT where appropriate; and build REST APIs and secure interfaces to enterprise systems (ERP, CMMS, analytics).

• Industry 4.0 alignment: Apply ISA-95/ISA-88 models, UNS/asset hierarchies, and digital-thread principles so data flows cleanly from equipment to MES and enterprise analytics.

• Scripting & languages: Develop with Python (Gateway/Project scripts), C# (services/tools), and SQL; and be comfortable with modern front-end patterns for operator UIs.

• Delivery & commissioning: Own design → build → test → deploy; create runbooks and operator job aids; support site start-ups and FAT/SAT; analyze issues and drive root-cause fixes.

• Collaboration & mentoring: Partner with controls (PLC), OT networking, IT/Cloud, and operations; mentor junior engineers through pairing, reviews, and clear standards.

What You’ll Bring

Experience: 5+ years of SCADA/MES delivery in OT (Ignition preferred; AVEVA/Wonderware or FactoryTalk a plus).

Languages & scripting (core): Python, SQL.

Data/DB: Strong SQL and schema design (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL/Oracle), plus historian configuration.

Integrations: OPC UA, MQTT, REST APIs; familiarity with ERP systems.

Standards & practices: ISA-95/ISA-88, Industry 4.0 concepts; Git, code reviews, CI/CD, and Dev→Test→Prod promotion.

Plus: C#, PowerShell/Bash for tooling and automation; PLC/HMI familiarity; strong mentoring/communication; ability to manage multiple projects.

• Education: B.S. in Computer Science (or equivalent). Ignition certification preferred; other SCADA/MES certs are a plus.
